OFFENSE
The Chieftains want to spread the ball around and use what the defense is giving to their advantage. Head coach Robert Borgstadt is coming off a 6-5 season and is looking to build on that success. “We will be a balanced offense looking to take advantage of what the defense gives us. We have skilled kids at every position on offense and look to be a very explosive offense,” said coach Borgstadt. One explosive player to watch is running back and wide out Te’Zohn Taft (5-11, 170, Sr.). Taft is a VYPE Top 100 selectee and is exciting to watch with the ball in his hands. Last season he rushed for 1,002 yards on 118 carries with 10 touchdowns. He also added 616 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. Quarterback Zac Mason (6-1, 165, Jr.) played half a season last year but looks to take over the job full time in 2020. Mason completed 61 passes for 580 yards a year ago. Running back Wyatt Hall (5-11, 190, Sr.) had 37 carries for 276 yards and three scores. Also a threat in the passing game, look for Hall to increase his numbers this season. Wide receiver Kenyon Kahmeyer (6-0, 185, Sr.) had 34 receptions and 340 yards with one touchdown. Kahmeyer is a weapon that the Chieftains have returning to the lineup. The offensive line features Brance Renschler (6-2, 310, Sr.) and Coleman Lecoq (5-10, 210, Jr.).
DEFENSE
“We have a lot of young guys that are ready to step up and contribute to a successful season,” said coach Borgstadt. Taft and Dylan Wick (6-0, 170, Sr.) both start at corner giving the Chieftains two cover guys that play smart football on defense. Taft recorded 59 tackles and two interceptions with three forced fumbles. Wick had 45 tackles and two interceptions last season. Safety Ethan Esparza (5-8, 165, Sr.) made 38 tackles last season and returns to patrol the secondary giving the Chieftains a playmaker covering a lot of ground. Linebacker Devon Roberts (5-11, 175, Jr.) made 61 tackles and one fumble recovery last year. Roberts plays a physical style of football that forces would be ball carriers take notice.
