Going into the 2022 fall football season, Tim Holt Jr. looks to strengthen his staff by adding two new coaches to his defense and one coach to his offense.
Holt adds Patrick “Pat” McGrew and Sam Johnson to his defensive staff. McGrew joins Sapulpa varsity football as the new linebackers coach. McGrew is no stranger to Sapulpa football, as his son, Tyler, is already on Holt’s staff. Pat McGrew previously coached at Bixby for 11 seasons and led them to three 5A state championship appearances before stepping away in 2010. During his time at Bixby, he was also an assistant athletic director and middle school science teacher.

Former All-State defensive end for Sapulpa, Sam Johnson takes the helms of the defensive line starting this fall. Johnson graduated from Sapulpa High School in 2013, served as team captain for the varsity football team, and was named 6A Iron Man of the Year in 2013. After graduating from Sapulpa, Johnson played and coached Division II football at Henderson State University. Johnson played defensive end from 2013-2017 at Henderson State and then served as a graduate assistant coach from 2018-2022.

Finally, Holt adds David Alexander on as his offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Alexander has an abundance of coaching experience at the high school level as well as playing experience in the NFL. After attending the University of Tulsa, Alexander played 10 seasons in the National Football League for the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets. Once he finished playing professional football, he worked as an assistant coach at Jenks High School (2007-2013) and then as head coach for Broken Arrow High School (2014-2020) where we won a 6A state championship in 2018. Alexander also had a short coaching stint for the arena football team, Tulsa Talons (2005-06).

Coach Holt is excited about the new additions to his staff and believes they are exactly what he needs to improve on last season. What excites Holt the most about his new staff is “the wealth of knowledge, experience, and success they [David Alexander and Pat McGrew] bring to our office…and Coach Johnson’s energy and excitement he brings to his alma mater”.
Holt and his new coaching staff open up the regular season in the American Heritage Bank Highway 97 Rivalry against Sand Springs on Friday, August 26th.
