Four Sapulpa soccer players were selected as All-World honorable mentions for their efforts and achievements in their 2022 seasons. Seniors Trey Hale and Cade Stevenson were selected from the boys soccer team. Megan Harris and Paola Chavez were selected from the girls team.
Although they were on opposite ends of the field, Hale and Stevenson made big impacts for Sapulpa boys soccer. While Hale was scoring and creating goals, Stevenson was on the other end making big saves to keep their team in the game. Hale finished the 2022 spring season with 8 goals and 3 assists. Stevenson made numerous big saves with one big-time performance from the senior goalkeeper in their penalty kick shootout win against Will Rogers where he saved two of their five penalties.
First-year varsity boys soccer coach, Kenny Kinzer, coached the two seniors in 2022 and greatly admired all they did in their final seasons for the Chieftains. “Trey could turn the tide of a game with one touch. Other teams knew he was a player they had to stop, otherwise he would dominate a game”, Kinzer said. “[Cade is] a very gifted goalkeeper…[He] made spectacular saves look routine. Cade’s goalkeeping talents allowed players the ability to be creative and take chances knowing he was between the pipes”, he added.
Goalkeeper Megan Harris and defender Paola Chavez were a force to be reckoned with in their 2022 spring season. The defensive pair for the Lady Chieftains kept seven clean sheets, including one to beat Coweta in the first round of the 5A state tournament. Harris and Chavez were both All-District selections while Harris also made the 5A All-State team.
Head varsity girls soccer coach, Lori Arundell, spoke quite greatly about the pair saying “Paola and Megan had such an impact on our amazing season. Megan was outstanding in goal and had so many amazing saves that kept us in games that could have gone the other way. Paola was the backbone of our defense and had so many amazing plays as well as scoring so many goals when we needed the spark that would win a game for us”.
