VYPE: How long have you played soccer?
Katelyn Schmidt: I have played soccer since I was four years old, so basically 12 years.
VYPE: What first got you interested in the sport?
KS: I was first interested in soccer because of my older siblings Bobby and Allison Schmidt. When they started to play soccer at the Sapulpa Soccer Club, I also wanted to play. I started playing and fell in love with the sport.
VYPE: Do you have a favorite memory in your time competing for your high school?
KS: My favorite memory is when I scored my first goal in my freshman year. I can remember one of our past seniors, Lindsey Dennison, was the first person I hugged. Then everyone else crowded in and celebrated being the supportive team that they are.
VYPE: Let’s talk about your teammates. Which player on your team would you not want to go up against? Who is the fastest? The loudest? Who keeps everyone laughing?
KS: The main teammate I would not want to go up against is Lillie Wilson. She is very technical and very strong. There are so many girls I do not want to go up against. They are Abby Admire, Kailey Asher, Emma Panak and Peyton Bolden. The fastest would have to be Emma Panak. She may be small, but she can catch up with anybody. The loudest teammate is Kailey Asher. She is able to get a point across and communicate effectively. There are two main people that keep me laughing; Sofia Perez and Abby Admire. They both are a comedic relief in almost all situations that need it, and they are some of my best friends.
VYPE: What is a song that gets you hyped before a game?
KS: For pregame hype my go to song is Congratulations, by Post Malone.
VYPE: What is your go to post-game meal?
KS: Anything from Chick-fil-A.
VYPE: Who do you look to as a role model and why?
KS: Peyton Bolden has been my role model for soccer ever since my U8 days. She is so talented, and I hope I can be like her on and off the field one day.
VYPE: What is your favorite subject in school?
KS: My favorite subject in school would have to be math. I have had amazing teachers, one being Coach Arundell and soon to be Coach Admire, and I love solving problems and understanding how to work things out.
VYPE: What are your plans after high school?
KS: My plans are to hopefully play soccer in college and get a degree in the medical field.
