All athletes are working towards a goal that they have set for themselves. For some, it may be winning a championship or some kind of personal milestone. Justin Squire says that no matter what you are working for, you have to be willing to give your all for it.
“It takes a lot to be your best,” he said. “Hard work and dedication are important, as well as perfecting your craft. You have to be willing to outwork others. And probably the most important thing is to just have fun.”
Squire is a sophomore at Sapulpa. He is a member of the football, basketball, and track teams. On the gridiron, Justin lines up at wide receiver and cornerback for the Chieftains.
Throughout his life, there have been different people that have influenced Justin and helped him become the person he is today. But, he says, that there are a few people that have made a bigger impact.
“My parents and coaches are the biggest role models in my life,” he said. “They always push me to be the best that I can be and they are always there to support me.”
As a student at Sapulpa, Squire has been in the classroom of many different teachers. And while he has learned a lot during his education, he says that there is one teacher that stands out as his favorite.
“Jeremy Lusk would have to be my favorite teacher,” he said. “He was also my cross country and track coach. He was a pretty cool guy to be around. He taught me so much in the classroom, whether it came to assignments or just being yourself. He would push me in practice and cross country meets because he knew what I was capable of.”
Sapulpa head football coach, Tim Holt, Jr., says that Squire has a lot of potentials to do great things.
“We feel he has the ability to be a big-time playmaker in this program very early on,” the coach said. “He has really good speed and is very physical for as young as he is. We will try and use him in a lot of different ways this year on both sides of the ball.”
