Mason Quinton enters the 2021 cross country season as one of the best long-distance runners in the state. As early as his freshman season, Quinton, a soon-to-be four-time state qualifier, asserted himself as the best runner on the Sapulpa High School team.
Last season, Quinton finished 13th overall at the state meet while the team placed fourth. Quinton plans on besting his personal record of 16:23 this season as he and his Chieftain teammates are off to a great start in 2021. At their latest meet at Booker T. Washington, Quinton was the first runner to cross the finish line while Sapulpa also placed first overall as a team.
“Mason’s strengths are that he knows how to pace extremely well, and he has a strong kick at the end of his races,” coach Debbie Williams said.
Quinton also competes on the Sapulpa track and field team, where he runs individually in the mile and two-mile races. He’s also a part of the two-mile relay team, where Quinton is the first leg before handing off the baton to his twin brother, Evan. Mason and his brother are the top-two runners on the cross-country team, as Evan finished 19th overall at state last season.
“Mason and Evan have been leading our high school boys’ team by example and by performance for all four years of their high school careers,” Williams said. “Whether it’s a time trial, a cross country meet, a track meet, it matters a lot to them to represent Sapulpa well.”
