Sapulpa varsity football traveled to Bixby High School for their first opportunity to get some reps as a team to prepare for the 2022 football season. Schools in attendance included Bixby, Midwest City, Enid, and Glenpool.
Team Camp was a three-day event that allowed for head varsity football coach, Tim Holt Jr., and his team run offensive and defensive plays as well as play mini-games against tough 5A and 6A opponents. Coach Holt is entering his second year as head varsity football coach. In his first season, the Chieftains made it to the 5A State Tournament where they fell in the first round to a very strong McAlester team, 48-14.
This year, Holt looks to improve on last year’s season. “We’re getting ready to do something special,” says Holt. “There’s a few things we have to sure up, but we’re going to take care of that over the next two months.”
Holt also added three new coaches to his staff. David Alexander, Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach; Pat McGrew, Linebackers Coach; and Sam Johnson, Defensive Line Coach all join Holt’s staff.
The Chieftains continue to put in work over the summer at their Power Performance Camp as well as compete in 7 on 7s at Bixby High School. Sapulpa varsity football opens up their 2022 regular season campaign against Sand Springs on Friday, August 26th, in the Highway 97 Rivalry sponsored by American Heritage Bank.
