Head Coach: Tim Holt Jr. T
2020 Record: 5-5
Entering his first season as head coach for his hometown school, head coach Tim Holt Jr. and the rest of his coaching staff have very high hopes for the upcoming season. “We want to build a program with a culture of excellence and excitement that our community can be proud of! Our goals are set very high this year and we want to accomplish things that have never been done in this program,” Holt said. The Chieftains have six returning starters on offense, including wide receiver D’Angelo Mitchell (6-0, 180, Sr.). The Sapulpa coaches have a goal of getting Mitchell the ball as much as possible due to his explosiveness and speed. Also returning to the Chieftain offense is quarterback Zac Mason (6-1, 190, Sr.). Mason comes back after starting his junior year, and throwing for 1,437 yards, 17 touchdowns and only four interceptions. Playing the running back position is Tyreese Jones (5-7, 165, Sr.) who comes back after seeing some playing as a junior, recording 328 yards and contributing three touchdowns. Expect his numbers to increase drastically in the upcoming season. Lining up with Mitchell at wide receiver is Colton Morton (6-0, 175, Sr.). Morton brought in 20 receptions for over 300 yards and three touchdowns last season. The offensive line for the Chieftains brings back experience as well, including center Coleman LeCoq (5-10, 230, Sr.) and guard Nate Lloyd (6-0, 235, Sr.). Both of these men saw action as juniors, and Holt and his coaching staff believe they will stand out amongst others in 2021. The Chieftains will look to run a spread offense, getting the ball to their playmakers in the open field, creating mismatch problems for defenses.
