Defense
Just like the offense, the Chieftains return six defensive starters as well. Experience at the linebacker positions is always a good thing, and the Chieftains have just that. Connor Rose (5-10, 210, Sr.) and Devon Robers (6-0, 195, Sr.) both saw significant time on the field during their junior year campaigns. Rose brought in 90 tackles, had three fumble recoveries, and added an interception as well. Robers had similar statistics, bringing in 84 tackles, two fumble recoveries, an interception, and also had five sacks. Xander Konell (6-2, 190, Jr.) will play outside linebacker for the Chieftains, and saw some field time as a sophomore, but is expected to see a lot more this season. Justin Squire (5-9, 175, So.) will line up at safety, and has a lot of potential according to Holt and his staff. “We feel this kid (sophomore) has the ability to be a big time playmaker in this program very early on,” Holt said. Returning on the line are Connor McCall (6-4, 290, Jr.) and Marcus Medina (5-11, 225, Jr.) who both bring experience and size to this Chieftain defense.
