Abigail Rainey
Sapulpa High School
VYPE: Abigail, what grade did you start playing softball and when did you know it was the sport for you?
Abigail Rainey: I started playing softball when I was five years old and would say I became pretty serious around age eleven because I knew this was what I was good at.
VYPE: What does it mean to you to be part of the varsity team?
AR: It means a lot to me. It really gives me a boost of confidence and the desire to keep working hard to reach my goal of playing in college one day.
VYPE: Do you have a favorite subject in school and a favorite teacher?
AR: Math has always been one of my favorite subjects. Moving to a new school I really don’t know any teachers so I don’t have a favorite one, yet.
VYPE: What position do you play and what’s the toughest aspect of playing that position?
AR: I play shortstop and second but mainly shortstop. The toughest aspect of playing this position would be being quick not just physically but mentally. Being able to read the ball quick and know where to go, but you also have to be able to do things quick while slowing the game down mentally.
VYPE: What game do you have circled on the calendar that you’re excited to play?
AR: Kellyville, because it is my parent’s alma-mater. Makes it fun to compete when everyone knows you. You want to do your best.
VYPE: Which teammate keeps everyone laughing, who is the most serious?
AR: I would say probably me and Emma. We keep everyone on their toes and are always laughing. The most serious would have to be Elizabeth or “E” as we call her.
VYPE: When you have some down time, how do you enjoy spending it?
AR: I love to hangout out with my friends and go do something. Especially with the ones that I don’t see for softball. Softball takes a lot of my time, so when I am able to do something else, I don’t think twice about making plans with my friends.
VYPE: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
AR: “Work fast but slow it down mentally,” Casey King, my competitive coach, and the funniest guy on earth.
VYPE: Is there a teammate who you look up to or inspires you to play hard?
AR: Sage and Anna. They are always encouraging people and they both have the go hard mentality.
